AGM

Our AGM will be held on Wednesday 29th May at 7pm at the Elizabeth College Undercroft. Affiliated Clubs are requested to attend in person where possible, with Microsoft Teams being available for those that cannot attend in person.  

 

Strategic Plan

The Volleyball Tasmania Strategic Plan expires at the end of this year. You have an opportunity to have a say in the strategic future of Volleyball in Tasmania.

Keep an eye out over the next couple of months to see how you can be involved! We need your voices! Young and old!

‘VOLLEY BALL’ – 60 Years of Volleyball in Tasmania

Volleyball Tasmania is excited to celebrate 60 years of volleyball in Tasmania.

  • Date: Saturday 30th November 2024
  • Where: Wrest Point (discounted accommadation will be available for attendees)
  • Cost: $160 (TBC) which will include all food and drinks (Payment plans will also be available if required)
  • Attire: Evening/Cocktail Formal

Pathways

Junior Development Program

The Junior Development Program is going strong with programs running in Hobart and Launceston from Grade 3 to Grade 12 and across multiple skill levels.

 

State team trials for the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships (AYVC) are coming up soon and have been advertised on Facebook. If you’re a junior eligible for U15 to U18’s and interested in trialling, check the Volleyball Tasmania Junior Development Program Facebook Page for more details. Echidnas

In exciting news, both Ben Althaus and Callum Flude (along with Tasmanian athlete, Harrison Tadd) have been invited to the Senior Volleyroos Open camp to be held 6-10 May at the AIS. Multiple training sessions a day will be held, with some recovery sessions in between.

 

From multiple expressions of interest, only 24 were selected for the camp, with the opportunity to then be selected to train with the Australian Senior Team.

A Level 2 Referee Course will be held Sunday 19 May in the Elizabeth College Undercroft. Register here:

School Volleyball

The Indoor Volleyball Schools Cup will be held Wednesday 19th June (Grades 7/8) and Thursday 20th June (Grades 9/10) at Kingborough Sports Centre. Keep an eye out for opportunities to volunteer.

Local Leagues

Southern League

Southern League is well over halfway through now as we hit round 11. Standings show Van Diemen’s topping Three of the four Divisions after 9 rounds. Division 1 Men and Women and Division 2 Women. Boss Hawks are currently the top of the Division 2 Men.

Hobart Social Competitions

 

The Autumn social competitions are coming to an end with Thursday night Grand Finals last night (Congratulations Div 1 – Melon and Div 2 – Kiss My Ace). Tuesday night Grand Finals are scheduled next week.

 

Winter social competition (running from 21st/23rd May until 20th/22nd August) is now open for team registration at the following link:

Launceston League

 

The Launceston League has just crossed the half-way mark of the season. Current competition leaders are:

 

  • Men’s A Grade - LVC Wolfpack
  • Men’s B Grade – Arrackattack (very closely followed by LVC X-Men)
  • Women’s A Grade – Aces Flames

 

Devonport Competitions

 

Devonport Social (Monday nights) & A/B Grade (Tuesday nights) Winter Indoor Volleyball Competition will be offered for an 8 Week period starting next week 13th/14th May.

For any clubs who need assistance with their clubs, Active Tasmania are there to support all clubs and state sporting organisations to meet their obligations. They have some great resources on their page. With the increased governance requirements and requirements put on, not just state sporting organisations, but clubs as well. They have great resources on Grants, funding, Governance among other things.

Clubs Tasmania is holding some workshops below across the state.

Governance In Clubs – 6 – 15 May – 4 different workshops to be held across the state.

  • This Governance workshop is more advanced in nature and deals with how the committee demonstrates leadership both within itself and for the broader club community (and indeed the wider community).
  • The topics have been developed (as has been noted) as a result of the successful series of workshops of the same nature in 2023 and would include:
  • The Committee and Leadership (including a recap of the roles of committee members)
  • Building a strong committee
  • Setting goals and objectives and strategic planning for the club
  • Effective communication and managing conflict.
