For the first time, Volleyball Tasmania is seeking an application from a strength and conditioning specialist to help develop and improve the performance of its state teams at both the Australian Junior Volleyball Championship 2024 in Adelaide and the Australian Youth Volleyball Championship 2024 in Bendigo. In this role, the successful candidate will:
- Propose a strength program for athletes which can be tailored to individuals. This also includes rehab-specific work;
- Propose a conditioning program that addresses both general fitness and specific needs required to perform volleyball at the highest level for four days (AJVC) or six days (AYVC) of intensive competition;
- Provide general athlete monitoring and regular physical testing;
- Reporting information on athletes to coaches regarding injuries, loading and general athlete well-being;
These tasks will mostly happen in the lead-up to the competitions, in parallel with the volleyball training. There is the expectation that the successful candidate will travel at both competitions as part of the delegation and perform morning pre-game warm-up for the squads, as well as provide rehab work when necessary.
Must have:
- Be available to travel for both competitions;
- Experience with similar high-performance outfits, at junior or senior level;
- Have a passion for the sport or a passion for discovering the sport;
Nice to have, but not compulsory:
- Similar volleyball or other sports event experience, as it would help with understanding what athletes go through during these compressed and intensive competitions;
- Desire to continue in this role for a few years. As the JDP is gearing up to provide the best-performing environment for the athletes and the coaches, our ability to rely on an autonomous, trained and experienced S&C specialist would be a major asset.
The S&C specialist application period will close on Saturday, 23rd March 2024. Any questions about the role should be directed to jdp@volleyballtasmania.com.au.
