For the first time, Volleyball Tasmania is seeking an application from volleyball scouts / analysts to help the development and performance of its state teams at both the Australian Junior Volleyball Championship 2023 in Sydney and the Australian Youth Volleyball Championship 2023 in Bendigo. In this role of scout / analyst, the successfull candidate will:

1. Scout matches in which the Tasmanian state teams are playing, along with possibly future adversaries depending on schedule and bracket;
2. Liaise with the assistant coaches of each team to provide a match report, as well as communicate live feedback during games whenever possible;
3. After a match, upload the scouted file to our analytics server, and provide support to the assistant coaches as to which particular aspects of the games they should be looking at;
4. Liaise with the mentor coach(es) when requested to help them provide the best guidance to head and assistant coaches during the competition;

While most of these tasks will happen during the competitions, it is expected that the successful candidate will liaise with the coaching staff prior to the competition, get familiar with the teams, and discuss what type of feedback and working arrangement will be best with each outfit.  The candidate will also need to invest time practicing with the scouting software, if not already proficient (see below). 

Must have: 

1. Be available to travel for both competitions;
2. Have a passion for the sport, or a passion for discovering the sport;
3. Strong attention to detail and the ability to record observations accurately
4. Competency in a volleyball scouting software (DV, VS, VBStats) or the willingness to achieve this by the time we travel to AJVC in July 2023. We are willing to provide the software and instruction if the candidate is willing to learn. Beginners typically need around 15 hours of practice to reach minimum competency.

Nice to have, but not compulsory:

1. Some coaching experience, as it would help with understanding what coaches require both during and after the game;
2. Desire to continue in this role for a few years. As the JDP is gearing up to provide the best performing environment for the athletes and the coaches, our ability to rely on an autonomous, trained and experienced scout would be a major asset.
